Every workshop we have an in-house competition! The student with the best work receives their next photography workshop free! This strongly encourages students to submit their images for valuable feedback. During our workshops, we do a lot of hands-on teaching. Which means, you get to ask questions about the photograph you just took. However sometimes, what looks amazing on the tiny camera screen doesn’t look as great on your computer. That’s why we also teach our students about the histogram to make sure your in camera exposures are correct! This student, along with several others, submitted many wonderful photographs!
This month’s Intro to Photography Winner went beyond understanding the technicalities of manual mode on a dSLR. She added a bit of creativity by breaking up the foreground with some blurred out leaves and branches, while maintaining good focus. Our model, Katie, is well lit; Compositionally, she’s in the center of the photograph. To improve this image, we might suggest not having her in the exact middle. Congratulations, Nicole! Thank you to everyone who came, and everyone who submitted images! We hope to see you again, soon!!
Below are some of the runners up! We are always blown away by everyone’s submissions. You guys really seem to understand the basics of Manual Mode! We hope everyone signs up for another Creative Edge Photography Workshop! We have a Nature workshop coming up November 24th, and many others on the calendar for the 2014 year! Keep scrolling for some great classmate images!
The above image of Katie has BEAUTIFUL back lighting, with proper exposure in the face, and has a creative quality by putting her not directly in the center.
Earthly, our other stunning model, is so perfectly captured! Like a stunning woman of the amazon, this student captured amazing light fragments behind her, creating beautiful textured that doesn’t distract from the main event! Her face is also properly exposed with great focus!
Finally, we have another image of Katie. This time, Katie is well lit with a fun solar flare! This image was a runner up for its creative angle and attention to detail. She is located in the bottom center which puts a lot of weight in the bottom of the image, however, that is contrasted with the sun flare for creativity and breaks up the darkness at the bottom.
