Congratulations to Haley! Your photograph of Olivia won a free photography workshop! We love this image of Olivia. It has awesome depth of field, all her eye lashes are in focus, the exposure and coloration is good. The reason it won though was the emotion that it captured. Olivia has nice light of life in her eyes, and she’s mid laugh. Photography is an amazing tool to freeze a moment in time, and you did this beautifully! Well done, Haley! If you were to frame this, or have it matted, you might want to have a little more breathing room above Olivia’s head, because frames and mat’s cut into the image just a little.

There can’t be a winner without runner ups! The next pictures are being highlighted for different reasons. Let’s first start with Jan’s image on the tire swing. This image is pretty good! The bokeh effect of the background is really beautiful, like sparkling lights glistening over the ocean. I love the spirit of this photograph. It’s a little underexposed, Maggie is a little dark. In a perfect world, the bench at the bottom wouldn’t be there either.

Next is a lovely portrait of Raquel by Jodi. The lighting falling over her face is just delightful. She’s well exposed, and well placed within the frame. I love that in a busy setting like our workshop, you still managed to get a beautiful image of Raquel where it looks like it’s just the two of you. This image is great for a “looking out into the distance” shot, but maybe to take it one step further, ask Raquel to look directly at the camera without moving her head. Just that little action of bringing her eyes in will grab the attention of the viewer just a little more.

I wish the resolution of this next image was just a little higher. It was taken by Jim, and it’s just breathtaking. Everything about the mood, Raquel’s facial expression, exposure, just draws the viewer straight in. You did a great job of including both hands, where some people might forget to look at the full frame, you did a wonderful job of framing. JIM-AROLD-3-MODELSHOT

Finally we have one more image of Olivia, this time by Kyle. I wanted to include this image in the runner ups because it just seems a little different to me. She’s well framed, well exposure. I think a little more life light in her eyes could bring you in a little faster, but all around this is a job well done. I wonder how striking it would be in black and white =)KYLE-JOHNSTON-12-MODELSHOTThank you so much to all our models and students. We love it when these workshops sell out, because we love to teach about our passions.. photographing people. If you enjoyed what you learned and want to take it further, consider our Intermediate and Advanced workshops!
