Our February 7th Workshop saw the sun! We are grateful for our students, our models, our location, and the chance to share our passion of photography with those that attend. We’ll start this blog with some images of all the models take by our instructors. Then we’ll go into the workshop winner for the class, and the images that were a close second!
One of the great things about being a photographer is that you are first an artist. One of our instructors, Capas, decided to have a little fun in the post processing for his images from this workshop. An artistic choice can be something as simple adding a textured frame around the image, adding an HDR efffect, as you’ll see below, and applying layered techniques to achieve the film affects you could get while working in the darkroom with your film.
When we have enough students submit images to our models, not only do we provide feedback about the images, but we also hold a contest for a free photography workshop of choice! In this case we had just enough students submit! We are excited to announce that Deepa will be awarded a free photography workshop of choice! The next three iamges are Deepa’s the first one is the one that won! Though the image could be a little brighter in exposure, her focus is good as is her composition. She also captured a great expression from Georgia, our model.
The next image is also Deepa’s. I love the composition and the juxtaposition of the crooked door that almost matched color intensity as Georgia’s pink shirt. I think the image as a whole could be a little brighter, but other than that, great image!
Here, Deepa chose to get close to the ground and shoot up towards our model. The whole scene is in focus and has great exposure!
Of course you can’t have a winner without runner ups! One of our runner ups was Gloria. Gloria had a beautiful range of images submitted. I personally like this one a lot. She’s got a great depth of field going on that keeps the focus on the subject, who is very sharp an in focus. She’s got proper exposure for the backlighting on her head, but still managed to capture the catch light in her eyes. About composition, I love the strange angle that emphasizes Georgia’s great wardrobe choice.
This next image of Gloria’s has a bit of sunflare happening, which changed the feel of the image. It throws of the exposure but it works in this situation. With an obtrusive object in the lower right, the sunflare effect makes that object less noticeable. Katie has great hair for sun flare too. The highlights are a little bright, but just bring those highlights back a bit in post-process. Great image!
Our next runner up is Emily. I love her overall composition choices for her images.
And our last runner up, Hina! Great start guys!
Great job to all our students! I hope to see everyone back at one of our Intermediate Workshops, or our Specialty workshops!
If you’ve never attended a workshop by Creative Edge, now is the time! We offer at least one Intro to Photography workshop a month, some have more! We are passionate about being photographers and hope to share our knowledge and experience with you!
