In the summer months, there’s a funny balance of having enough workshops to please our students, and not making our students suffer in the summer heat. Luckily, for our August 9th Intro Workshop it was not as hot as it usually is in the middle of summer. We lucked out with some clouds and even the occasional breeze. Towards the end of the day, the sun came out ready to play, and I think we were all a bit thankful when it was time for some much deserved air conditioning. We started the workshop in the classroom, going over the difference between Raw and Jpegs, how to get the perfect exposure using ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture, and then how to use those controls creatively so your images look the way you want.

After a delightful session in the coolness of a classroom at the great Barrington Hall in Roswell, we worked their grounds letting the students apply everything they just learned. We believe hands on teaching is the best way to learn something forever. You can read a manual several times but until you start turning knobs and pushing buttons things won’t ‘click.’

Below are some images from the instructors, if you scroll through, you’ll see our in-house free workshop contest winner as well as the runner ups! Here we have Gloria modeling for our students! S

Next we have Ashanti in the archway of some kind of plant… it gets dark in there, so we had one of our assistants, Doug, hold a LED light through the branches to get dramatic light on her face.

We always have a minimum of three models per workshop. Here you see why. We set up two or three scenes so the students can walk around, get close and spend as much time as they want with each set.

Every intro to photography workshop, we offer students the opportunity to send in their pictures for a critique. We also send the models our students have taken, AND last but not least we hold an in-house contest. The student with the overall most creative, well exposed image receives a free workshop from creative edge photography workshop of his or her choice! But you can’t have a winner without a couple runner ups-

First we have Leah! Leah has been an exceptional model for us over the years and has recently spread her talents in the music and film industry. Photography has always intrigued her so naturally she signed up for one of the workshops she used to model at! Leah, you did an excellent job composing the image and working the scene. The image is a little under exposed, but over all VERY nicely done!

Our second runner up is Veronica! We are loving your eye with this image. Great use of the rule of thirds and changing your composition!
