What a workshop! This was not a workshop that went as planned! But as a Professional Photographer you have to be ready for anything, especially extreme changes in the weather! Our Intro to Photography Workshops spend a good deal of time in the classroom teaching students about Manual Mode on their DSLRs. After the first half of the workshop we go outside on the 5 acre lot. We teach everyone the importance and ease of using natural light to your advantage! However, nature had a different plan. Just as we finished the class room portion, the sun disappeared. And not just your normal “i’ve gone behind some clouds;” this was “end of the world, is there a sun at all” type of darkness! The weather reported 60% chance of rain, but that chance, became a reality very suddenly! So here we are, 15 students, 3 professional photographers, two models, and a bunch of lights outside to create the sun! We quickly grabbed everyone and everything and headed back inside to the studio.
It’s truly unfair to a beginner to learn on studio lighting! But our students were champions! They welcomed the challenge! There was not a sign of the rain or dark clouds of doom disappearing, so we had to make the best of the situation. We set up our lights inside. It wasn’t easy but eventually everyone was shooting some remarkable images! We usually save studio lighting for our intermediate to advanced photography workshop, but these beginners were doing well!
Usually we showcase some of the professionals images on the blog. But now we’re starting the showcase our students! Raw and unedited, here are some of the best shots from Sunday’s Introductory Photography Workshop!
