Photographing Children Workshop Atlanta | Creative Edge

We started our children workshop at our studio so we could go over marketing, lighting techniques and then went into Q&A.  The last two hours of the workshop was all hands on photographing our three children models, Rachel, Brooke and Ben.  They were all great and we had a great time at the historical home that allowed us access for our photo shoot.  We put our models in all kinds of available light and captured some great images, below are some images we shot with some tips on how we created the image.Using backlighting and a silver reflector we were able to capture this beautiful portrait of Rachel.  Also used a 200 mm lens at F2.8 to give us the shallow depth of field.Watching and waiting for the right moments is one way to get great children portraits.  We like put them being themselves and capturing real moments, again with a 200 mm lens for shallow depth of field but also so she is not aware of the camera. Brooke was also showing off her cool shoes! We used the fence to add some design and interest into the photograph of Ben, also using a long lens and shallow depth of field.  To get lighting into his eyes we used a silver reflector and with the image above we added the sepia tone and texture in PS.We had a photo contest with all of the students at the workshop with the winner receiving a free future workshop.  Nina got lots of great images of all of the models but the two images below of Ben stood out and won her a free workshop. Both images were shots Nina captured on her own, they were not shots we set up and she just clicked away.  She took Ben over to this tree and poised him to capture the shot below.  She also played with him to capture his personality int he shot below, great job Nina.
