Wedding Photography Workshop Atlanta | Creative Edge

We had two great models for our wedding workshop!! They had modeled for me at a beauty fashion shoot for Atlantan Magazine.  They are both from Russia and got married only a few months ago. So,n ot only do they look great, but they are real newlyweds!!  I wanted to start at my studio– so we could capture some dramatic lighting indoors……Then we headed to a large field of grass to photograph them in outdoor lighting, at sunset and just after dusk.  We covered a lot of ground in three hours, but I guess everything must have sunk in……. because one of the photographers at the workshop came up to me and said “he learned more in three hours at this workshop, than he had learned in the past year.”!!!!

Often at wedding the whole focus is on the bride, getting beautiful and often sexy shots of her and the groom is neglected.   I wanted to show how to create some dramatic shots of the groom that look very  stylish and cool. These shots of the groom were taken with a portable video light with some daylight as a fill.

I always encourage everybody to walk around to capture different angles, but also to watch the light.  Here we are getting some beautiful rim lighting from our video light. I love shooting with a video light because you can move quickly and see exactly what you are getting.

This shot was done only with available light from a window and a reflector.

Love their expressions and playfulness!!  You have to interact and connect with your clients to capture their personality!

The sun started dropping right over the top of the trees, so we had to move quicly to capture the mood of the sun.  I love back-lighting and flair!  All shot with available light and a reflector.

Here– I was demonstrating how to make the sky very dramatic by underexposing the sky by 2 fstops and shooting at 1/500 second–  so the fast shutter speed would vignette the lower part of the image.

The light was dropping, so we put away our off camera light and pulled out our video light again.  Using the light in a daylight white balance we added so nice additional light to this shot!!

I noticed the great clouds overhead, so we went out in the middle of the field, exposed for the sky and brought up the lighting on their face with our video light. Stunning effect…………

I love shooting right after dusk when there is just a little bit of daylight left.  I shifted to tungsten white balance to create the blue light and placed a video light with a tungsten filter (85B) right behind them to create this shot.

In these other three shots, we brought the video light around the front to light up their faces.  You have only about ten minutes during the day to pull of this type of shot —- shoot too early and get very ugly blue light and shoot too late the sky will be black.  Tricky…………timing is critical!!.
