Wedding Safari Photography Workshop | Creative Edge

This was such a great workshop!!  Why you ask?– because we had two wonderful models, Jessica and Jeremy  and it was held at one of my favorite wedding venues “Villa Christina.”.  Even though Jessica and Jeremy had never met until the workshop, you would never had known it!! A big thanks to Julie at Villa Christina who graciously let us hold the workshop at this beautiful venue.  Additional thanks to The Wedding Angels who provided the wedding dresses for this safari!!.  We photographed our models in a variety of places around Villa Christina, both inside and out.  Everyone got some incredible images for their portfolios. Following  is a small glimpse of the fun we had and the awesome images we walked away with!!!!

We found a hallway  that we used for the next four images.  It had a a warm color and no windows, so we could control the lighting. Also, it had some nice light patterns from the down lights in the ceiling.  Shooting at a high ISO, so we could take advantage of the existing lighting and adding some extra lighting with a portable video light, we created the mood for these four images.

Brittany created the images above and below, making them even more dramatic by shooting them in black and white.

We turned off the overhead lights and metered for the outside lighting to create this dramatic image.

Using only ambient lighting, we placed Jessica by the window, so it would create a nice light pattern on her face and give texture to her dress.  Jeremy was added to the background to add depth to the image. No flash was used at all!

Josh created this very creative image by turning his camera and shooting from a low angle.

By using the light coming in from the window to the camera’s left and a silver reflector below our model, we created this beautiful image.  Eyes are so important in a good portrait!! The reflector fills in the shadows of this image, but also creates great catch lights in her eyes.  BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!

Capas did a great job capturing Jessica’s veil blowing in the wind. The horizontal composition of this shot would allow this to be the perfect double page spread in the bride’s album.

Bringing props to the photo shoot can add impact to a shot and make it something fun!
