Here’s the second Intro Photography Workshop we had this January! We had decent weather and another Sold out class! Our models were lovely, we had a mom and her daughter and the sixteen year old Mya! Everyone did a great job! All the students were asking really good questions, and I think everyone left feeling pretty good about the progress they had made throughout the class! As always, students are encouraged to submit images for feedback regarding how to make their pictures even better, but also to be eligible for winning a free photography workshop! Well we’ve gone through all the submissions and are proud to present to you the winner of January 26th Intro Workshops : Eliza!

Eliza had three images that were kept as highlighted, this one won her the free workshop! She set up her camera with the correct ISO for the lighting situation and took creative liberty for the F-Stop and Shutter Speed, she chose to pull back from the two different scenes we set up for people to practice with. In a client-session situation, this image would be great for telling a story. As professionals we always try to capture the moments, and expressions, but also to tell the stories of the subjects. If you didn’t know this was a scene we set up, you could create a story about the people at this barn!

Our runner ups are: Jennifer and Tracy.

With the above image, Jennifer did a great job of choosing a lens that would allow for the blurred out effect she was going for. Her lens didn’t open up to a large enough Aperture, but she had a telephoto lens that would blur out the background in a similar form! That shows thinking on your feet and using what you got to get the effect you want!  Below are two of Tracy’s images! She did a beautiful job of seeing the scene we set up, and then taking the creative initiative to find a different angle. A suggestion to improve the black and white image is to crop in a little tighter to eliminate the distracting handle on the wall and the hole in the wall behind mama’s head. But this moment between mother and daughter is really beautiful!

The last image is also Tracy’s. It’s a great moment captured of Mya. She’s not really posing. In a perfect world we would have cut down the distracting branches behind her, but that’s where a little photo-shop magic can come in handy =)
